New Industrial Technology means new Methodologies
The City Sanitation Department is often a job overlooked and under appreciated. They keep our streets and highways clean as well as our water. The City of Muskogee upgraded their sanitation trucks in 2020, with the new vehicles there were new procedures that needed to be established. The City of Muskogee gave us 3 months to teach, inform, and prepare the community for the undertaking of the new system. Our goal was to mitigate as many mistakes as possible to avoid pileup and lowering community morale.
The City of Muskogee purchased 4, 2020 Peterbilt 530 Chassis trucks w/ Labrie automated arm. They were bought for multiple reasons but mainly emissions, age, and safety. The older models required 2-3 workers to operate. One driver and 1-2 operators hanging from the back. Traditionally, residents could place their trash on the curbs, and the additional operators would hand-pick the bags placed on the curb. The new trucks are remotely controlled and only have one operator who never leaves the cabin. So, trash had to be positioned in a way that the automated arm could run freely without obstruction.
Our goals were to drive awareness using EDDM, Emails, and a Video Campaign to inform the community of the new changes. We needed to be extremely efficient since this would affect the entire population. Muskogee is home to over 33,000 residents with an average of 2.5 individuals per household. To be effective, we felt we needed to provide daily posts and create a visual illustration of the new procedure, so we did just that, creating diagrams, videos, and step-by-step instructions. We also created a landing page with a QR code linked directly to the illustration. This gained 1,110 visits over the 3-month campaign.
We are very excited to announce that the campaign was deemed a success in the eyes of the sanitation department and the City of Muskogee. There were few to no problems at launch, and the community received the changes gracefully. With a thorough and simplistic approach, we were able to help and support the Muskogee Sanitation Department
